Studies

Cowhide 1

Do not be fooled by the name of this study — only sweaters and linen blouses were used to construct this pelt-like composition. The artist used strips of reclaimed textiles to create rib-like patterning, with painterly shading to add a sense of depth. The work is then felted repeatedly by an industrial felting machine to permanently blend the fibers.  It is easy to envision this study above a fireplace or stylish cash wrap.

  • Studies are fiber-art compositions that serve as material exploration for Waste No More’s array of techniques and surprising visual effects. Often, they are the prototype for larger Wallworks. They are arranged by hand and industrially felted to produce one-of-kind artworks that can be framed, mounted, or hung as is. Made from remnants of reclaimed EILEEN FISHER clothing, they play with texture, color, and shape with a spirit of lively experimentation that far outsizes their intimate scale.
