Jeans in Squares
No fewer than 10 pairs of jeans were reclaimed and deconstructed to create this study. Reminiscent of the suprematist movement from the early 20th century, the composition of squares conveys feeling without figurative realism. Each hand-cut shape is arranged in place by the artist and felted by an industrial needle-punch machine. The two-color palette maintains the work’s code of simplicity.

Studies are fiber-art compositions that serve as material exploration for Waste No More’s array of techniques and surprising visual effects. Often, they are the prototype for larger Wallworks. They are arranged by hand and industrially felted to produce one-of-kind artworks that can be framed, mounted, or hung as is. Made from remnants of reclaimed EILEEN FISHER clothing, they play with texture, color, and shape with a spirit of lively experimentation that far outsizes their intimate scale.
