Studies
Red Earth
Black, and gray, and red all over, this study is reminiscent of a printed newspaper. It is crafted from a humble woolen sweater sleeve and linen remnants that the artist assembled in an inspired patchwork. To integrate the pieces, the composition is felted repeatedly with an industrial felting machine that uses hundreds of needles to punch and blend the fibers. The process produces transparency in the textiles, in this case creating the appearance of printed text when viewed from a few feet away.

Studies are fiber-art compositions that serve as material exploration for Waste No More’s array of techniques and surprising visual effects. Often, they are the prototype for larger Wallworks. They are arranged by hand and industrially felted to produce one-of-kind artworks that can be framed, mounted, or hung as is. Made from remnants of reclaimed EILEEN FISHER clothing, they play with texture, color, and shape with a spirit of lively experimentation that far outsizes their intimate scale.
